Mardi Gras Song & Random Thought

Mardi Gras: March 1st, 2022. I would like to invite all my readers to consider a trip to Louisiana one year to partake in Mardi Gras Festivities. If you ever do, feel free to message me and ask for recommendations. Personally, I am more of a “traditional” reveler but there is not a “wrong” way I suppose. πŸ€ͺ🎊😁

One of my favorite Mardi Gras memories consists of my Mom waking me up at about 5:00 AM asking me to get dressed quickly. One of her friends was able to score 2 horses for us to partake in the “Chicken Run”. I could not believe my ears! It was something I had knew existed but never was old enough to witness.

I was so excited that I didn’t even put on make up and that’s sort of a big deal for a teenage Southern girl. πŸ˜‰ We traveled about 45 mins to a little town called, Pecaniere (pronounced Pah caw yein).

Upon arrival, I quickly realize that EVERYONE had been drinking for about 2 days and at about hour 46 is when our seats had become available. It was hilarious, grown men and women wearing wire mesh masks and colorful costumes, traveling the countryside on horse back. In hopes of gathering ingredients to make a large community gumbo.

There was something about the togetherness, that made me feel so connected with my roots. I had no idea who these people were and here I was riding on the back of some happy drunkards horse. Looking back, I realize how rare of an opportunity it was. One of my other favorite parts of the organized disorder was watching the Mardi Gras-ers chase the chickens when they could barely walk straight. Not to mention, after they would catch it they would some how keep losing it and sometimes the chicken would start pecking its captor. Some of the foul play was probably purposeful. Watching a chicken attack a costumed man has to be one of the funniest things to watch, at least to me. πŸ–€πŸ”πŸŽŠ

Mardi Gras Song – Al Johnson “Carnival Time”

The Green room is smokin’

And the Plaza’s burnin’ down

Throw my baby out the window

And let the joint burn down

All because it’s Carnival Ti-i-ime

Whoa, it’s Carnival Time

Oh well, it’s Carnival Time

And everybody’s havin’ fun

Claiborne Street is a-rockin’

From-a one side to the other

The joints are jammin’, packin’

And I’m about to smother

All because it’s Carnival Ti-i-ime

Whoa, it’s Carnival Time

Oh well, it’s Carnival Time

And everybody’s havin’ fun

Right now, it’s Carnival Ti-i-ime

Whoa, Carnival Time

Oh well, it’s Carnival Time

And everybody’s havin’ fun

Well, if you put your nickel

Well now, I’ll put a dime down

We can get together now

And drink us some wine

All because it’s Carnival Ti-i-ime

Whoa, it’s Carnival Time

Oh well, it’s Carnival Time

And everybody’s drinkin’ wine

      1. Me and some soldier in the downtown area and everywhere. We went for the weekend. We sought fun and we found her. I loved old New Orleans. Me and my soldiers assisted during the hurricane too. I have friends who own property in the city now. I have some tales hidden somewhere.
