A Perfect Circle “Pet”
Fun Memory: When I was a ripe 20 years young, I took my little brother (16) to see his first concert, A Perfect Circle "Thirteenth Step Tour" in New Orleans. On the four hour ride there we blared the album repeatedly on some very shitty 6" x 9" speakers. By our arrival, we were more than ready, hyped up on level 10 of teenage excitement. We seemed to have gotten there a little later than we wanted to but it did not matter, online tickets printed out and in hand we gleefully hand them to the door guy that was obviously not enjoying the demographics of the crowd. "Um, Mam these tickets are for their concert in TX, not New Orleans." he said VERY smug like. Somehow, I had managed to purchase the wrong tickets online, and the person at the door was not impressed at my attempts to gain empathy. Nor, did the manager watching fall for my "helpless/ditzy girl" act, but I tried. 😉 As we made our way out of the arena, I looked back at my little brother with his big sad eyes, "Well, maybe we can hear it from the side of the building.", he said. I was not going to allow that; plus, I am vaguely certain that I had used my car insurance money on the invalid tickets, so I was VERY motivated to make sure we did NOT listen to parking lot music. In my heart, I knew that we were going to get what we wanted. I closed my eyes and turned around to see a lady walking out of the building to go smoke a cigarette. I had remembered that a man earlier was fussing with a worker from the venue about not being able to get back inside after smoking a cigarette and he ended up being escorted away by the cops. A part of me wanted to warn her but there was something inside that just wanted to see what would happen. So I watched her finish her cigarette and then try to go back inside... DENIED! They would not let her in, in the midst of her fury we locked eyes. I walked up to her, "We got locked out too!" I told her, she said "Let's go find another door!" I said, "Let us definitely do that!" All 3 of us go around to the side of the arena and found a man going in to start his shift and I pretended to cry and tell him that doorman had let some others back in but would not let us in. 🙂 VOILA! Empathy received! We got in! No lines and no hassle, we went in through the "Staff Only" entrance and walked in as this song began. 🖤
Don’t fret precious I’m heree

Step away from the window
Go back to sleep
Lay your head down child
I won’t let the boogeyman come
Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind what other voices say
They don’t care about you
Like I do
Like I do
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils
See they don’t give a fuck about you
Like I do
Just stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep
Lay your head down child
I won’t let the boogeyman come
Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums
I’ll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I’ll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I’ll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
One and the same I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself
Swaying to the rhythm of the new world order and
Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drum
The boogeymen are coming
The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
Hold you and protect you from the other ones
The evil ones
Don’t love you son
Go back to sleep
